Portbase launches the Portbase Marketplace. A central point for services and innovative solutions for port logistics. In the Marketplace, customers can find the Portbase services that have provided the backbone for supporting the vital core processes in the Dutch ports for the past 20 years. What is new is the offering of innovative services created through collaboration between Portbase and community members, between different community members and between community members and the ecosystem.
Long held wish
The Portbase Marketplace is a long-held wish of both Portbase and its community. Portbase CEO Iwan van der Wolf: “With the Marketplace, we are introducing an online channel where port logistics solutions can be provided and found centrally. And that extends beyond our ‘own’ services. We want to take our mission of facilitating supply chains via the Dutch ports as seamlessly, securely and sustainably as possible to the next level.”
Accelerated digitalisation
Digitalisation and technological developments are moving at lightning speed, including in the port logistics sector. Businesses and organisations increasingly want tailored data services, and they want to do smart things with that data themselves. The Marketplace represents a central point where supply and demand come together. Van der Wolf: “We regard it as our task to spur on and support the acceleration of digitalisation in the port logistics chains. In our neutral role, we can facilitate that for all the parties involved.”
Complete control
Portbase is offering part of its existing infrastructure to facilitate collaboration to create products and services for the Marketplace. With a number of generic components such as data storage and data conversion, identification, authorisation and authentication, it is a trusted environment where data owners themselves decide how their data is used and who they collaborate with. That means the players concerned have complete control.
Sticking to what we are good at
Portbase emphasises that this move does not mean any change to its primary scope. Van der Wolf: “Our focus remains on supporting the core processes so that businesses and organisations can continue to choose the Dutch ports as part of their supply chains. However, we see a growing desire within our community to do more themselves in terms of data, innovation and collaboration. We applaud that development, but it’s up to companies to make the running. Ours is a facilitating role.”
Growing the offering step by step
Today Portbase is taking a first step with the launch of the Marketplace. Port of Rotterdam has assisted in its establishment by providing part of the funding, market validation and market strategy. This initial step focuses on facilitating three specific themes: Port Call Optimization, Supply Chain Visibility and Emission Free Ports. The goal is to move to a growing service offering in the Marketplace together with the community – whether those are existing services from the Portbase portfolio or new products developed by a terminal or a start-up, from today they can all be found in the Portbase Marketplace.
