On 1st of October 2024, Rotterdam World Gateway (RWG) will start checking the executive carrier at the gate. This automatic check ensures that only the correct driver is allowed access to the terminal. Read more in this article.

How it works

The check is done by comparing the EAN number on the driver’s CargoCard with the EAN number in the pre-notification made via the Portbase service Hinterland Container Notification (HCN) by the carrier. Only if both numbers match, the driver can proceed. EAN numbers are issued by Secure Logistics.

What changes?

As soon as you authorise another carrier (also called charter or subcontractor) to pick up the container – you must indicate this in your pre-notification in HCN in the field ‘executing charter’. If you don’t do this, your executing carrier will not get access to the terminal.
