Together, we build the smartest port communities. That is our mission. ‘Together’ is an important word in this mission, because Portbase works for all the organisations in our community. This means that we take a neutral position in the port.

Together is our guiding principle,
in everything we do.

We are a not-for-profit organisation, operate on a not-for-profit basis and have no commercial interests. We exist because we are trusted and mandated by port companies to facilitate a flow of cargo through Dutch ports that is as seamless, safe and sustainable as possible. Together is our guiding principle, in everything we do.

This means that we set our course and annual plans with our community. Portbase is set up in such a way that the moment we make choices about which direction to take, we do so together with a delegation of our community members. In the client panels, for instance, priorities are set for the coming year based on strategic objectives. A delegation of clients together determine the priority of developments to be addressed. Based on that prioritisation, a community roadmap (annual plan) is drawn up.

But it does not end there. Because priorities should always be considered based on the bigger picture. After all, Portbase represents port interests at large. We also do this together with a representation of clients. The Strategic Advisory Board (SAR) includes clients from different client groups who view overarching priorities based on the community roadmap drawn up together with the client panels. The central question is: Is what we want to do good for the port as a whole and for the whole community? In other words, the ‘digital’ port agenda. The SAR also ensures good liaison with and between umbrella organisations and aims to create support for the direction among the constituency.

The port community is large and diverse. From small SMEs to governments, from small to large international multinationals to digital platforms. This makes for a broad spectrum of interests. One person’s wishes are another person’s concerns. This requires a broad perspective and empathy. Precisely because of our neutral position and the way in which we set our course, we at Portbase are able to weigh interests based on the overarching interest. And set course in this regard without arbitrariness or bias.

Community stories

We listen carefully to all parties in the logistics chain. From shipping company to terminal, from driver to customs officer: all links in the chain have their own challenge. Pim, Karlien, Lucien, Kees, Rogier and Jeroen tell their stories.
