The Customs Union and Statistics (CUS) number is the identifier assigned within the European Customs Inventory of Chemical Substances (ECICS) to mainly chemical substances and preparations. The declarant may provide this code on a voluntary basis where no measure laid down in Union legislation as published in TARIC exists for the goods concerned, i.e. where providing this code would represent a lesser burden than a full textual description of the product. Where the goods concerned are subject to a measure laid down in Union legislation as published in TARIC in relation with a CUS code, the code CUS shall be provided.
